mvComponents Suite 2.0

An extensive set of tools, utilities, and components for distributed application development and connectivity to MultiValue (PICK) database systems.

 

 

Everything a programmer needs to develop modern, efficient, scalable client/server and web-based applications that understand multidimensional, MultiValue data.

mvComponents Suite 2.0 was developed to add these missing elements to a MultiValue Database System:

A high speed connection protocol and Gateway service
Host server software to expose MultiValue data
Client-side database components and services
Components for managing MultiValue data on the client-side
Application designs for distributed, n-tier, scalable applications
Support for multiple types of User Interfaces
Tools for software installation and distribution
Tools for data distribution and integration

The components of the Suite currently are based on Microsoft's Component Object Model (COM) and support any COM-enabled environments such as Visual Basic 6.0, IIS/ASP, and Microsoft Office. A new version is in development that supports the Java (J2EE) cross-platform component model as well as a version supporting the .NET framework and Web Services architecture from Microsoft. Both of these new versions should be available in the 2nd Quarter of 2002.

mvComponents Suite 2.0 includes the following:

mvServer 2.0 - MultiValue database server and connectivity software. Includes client-based configuration programs, a client-based Pick/Basic program editor, and a powerful server technology that resides on your MultiValue (PICK) database system. mvServer 2.0 supports both data retrieval and update using structured query language (SQL) syntax or by the use of Stored Procedures written as Pick/Basic subroutines. The combination of dbObjects and mvServer can use persistent connections to support traditional client/server development or stateless, non-persistent (but cached) connections, supporting modern, high speed, scalable applications including Web-based interfaces and e-commerce.
dbObjects 2.0 - Database objects based on modern component object model technology. These objects provide access to MultiValue data sources in addition to Relational data sources. Besides the main database objects, dbObjects includes a collection of component templates and base classes for development of business middle tier objects and UI interface objects. It also includes multithreaded gateway software that multiplexes user connections to a host system as well as providing Web Server support with connection pooling.
Power Strings 2.0 - An extensive library of string management and data collection tools including a dynamic string array object with XML support for working with multidimensional, multivalued data within client-based development environments.
Vantage Control Set 2.1 - A collection of custom ActiveX controls for user interface (UI) development within Visual Basic, including multi-column combobox and listbox controls.
Configuration Manager 1.0 - Automatic client system configuration and software installation program. Solves the problem of software distribution and updates within a Windows or Netware network.
Task Dispatch Manager 1.0 - An XML-based software system for processing tasks that manage data within a UNIX or Windows network. A task within the system identifies a set of data and a set of operations to be performed on that data. The operations include consolidation, aggregating sets of data into a single document, conversion, the transformation of data from one format to another, and conveyance, the sending of processed data to any location on the network. As an example you could query the database and produce a result set, convert the result set to an Excel spreadsheet, attach the spreadsheet data to the body of an E-mail message, and E-mail the completed task to a predefined set of customers or users. mvComponents Suite 2.0 License Pricing

A license for the suite includes a development site license for Vantage Control Set 2.1, a development site license for Power Strings 2.0, a development site license for dbObjects 2.0, a single site 5 user base license for mvServer 2.0, a single site license for Configuration Manager 1.0, and a single site license for Task Dispatch Manager 1.0.

Suite License Price: $950.00

Price for a 5 user base mvServer 2.0 software license needed for any additional host systems: $500.00

Pricing for additional mvServer 2.0 software concurrent* user licenses:
1-99 users: $75.00 per user
100-499 users: $50.00 per user
> 500 users: $35.00 per user

*Note: For traditional client/server persistent connections concurrent users are the number of users currently connected at any given time. As an example, if you have 50 users and only 30 are logged on and connected at any given time you would need to license for 30 users rather then the total community of 50 users. For web applications and other non-persistent connection-based applications, the number of concurrent users for licensing purposes is based on the number of database connections per hour where 20 connections per hour = one concurrent user. As an example if your Web site activity averages 100 hits per hour then you will need to have 5 user licenses. In this example the base server pricing would be sufficient for a web server with this level of hits.

Yearly Maintenance and support for mvComponents Suite 2.0 and user licenses: The higher of 20% of licenses or $500.00.

Yearly Maintenance for mvServer 2.0 additional licenses: The higher of 20% of licenses or $250.00.

One of the following is also required for the first purchase of mvComponents Suite by an organization:

Option One, a full week of training and consulting: $4,500.00 plus expenses (includes on-site custom installation, initial operational training, and custom application development training). This is for those organizations that have an in-house development staff and want them to get direct training on the product and experience in writing their first application with the tools of mvComponents Suite 2.0.

Option Two, three day installation and training: $2,500 plus expenses (includes on-site custom installation and operational training only). This is for those organizations that do not have an in-house development staff and will depend on outside resources for further development using the tools of mvComponents Suite 2.0.

Example mvComponents suite 2.0 pricing for a customer with 15 concurrent users:

5 user Base System $950.00
10 additional users @ $75.00 = $750.00 
First year's Yearly Maintenance @ $500.00
Total software and maintenance cost: $2,200.00

With the service fee for the five day Option One training and consulting at $4,500.00 (plus expenses) your total cost would be $6,700.00 (plus expenses).

With the service fee for the three day Option Two installation and training at $2,500.00 (plus expenses) your total cost would be $4,700.00 (plus expenses).

 

Additional consulting and development are available from VantagePoint Software at the normal rate: $150.00 per hour plus expenses.

Additional training is available from VantagePoint Software at the normal hourly rate of $120.00 per hour plus expenses.
